Diva's Slouching Posie: a free crochet pattern

This is a slight variation on the Slouching Pink Posie(May 19th post), but the variable makes for a much larger hat. I wanted to make something for my friend, who has an enormous amount of beautiful hair, that she could use to put her hair up in when she went to the beach this summer. She's always worried about how her hair looks when it's humid, something that is a given in GA summers! Now she can just pull it up and not worry!

This is made with "I Love This Cotton", a WW yarn, and a 6.50mm crochet hook.

R 1: SC 8 in a magic ring, sl st into 1st SC

R 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1st DC), DC in SC, *ch 2, DC 2x into next SC,* repeat from * to * 6x, sl st into the top of the ch 3

R 3 : Ch 3 (counts as 1st DC), DC 2x over the ch 2 sp, ch 3, DC 3x into the same ch 2 sp, * DC 3x into the next ch 2 sp, ch 3, DC 3x into the same ch 2 sp,* repeat from * to * 6x, sl st into the top of the ch 3, sl st into the next 2 DC, and sl st into the ch 3 sp

R 4 : Ch 3 (counts as 1st DC), DC 3x over the ch 3 sp, ch 4, DC 4x into the same ch 3 sp, * DC 4x into the next ch 3 sp, ch 4, DC 4x into the same ch 3 sp,* repeat from * to * 6x, sl st into the top of the ch 3, sl st into the next 3 DC, and sl st into the ch 4 sp

R 5 : Ch 3 (counts as 1st DC), DC 4x over the ch 4 sp, ch 5, DC 5x into the same ch 4 sp, * DC 5x into the next ch 4 sp, ch 5, DC 5x into the same ch 4 sp,* repeat from * to * 6x, sl st into the top of the ch 3, sl st into the next 4 DC, and sl st into the ch 5 sp

R 6 : Ch 3 (counts as 1st DC), DC 5x over the ch 5 sp, ch 6, DC 6x into the same ch 5 sp, * DC 6x into the next ch 5 sp, ch 6, DC 6x into the same ch 5 sp,* repeat from * to * 6x, sl st into the top of the ch 3, sl st into the next 5 DC, and sl st into the ch 6 sp

R 7 : Ch 3 (counts as 1st DC), DC 6x over the ch 6 sp, ch 7, DC 7x into the same ch 6 sp, * ch1 DC 7x into the next ch 6 sp, ch 7, DC 7x into the same ch 6 sp,* repeat from * to * 6x, sl st into the top of the ch 3, sl st into the next 5 DC, and sl st into the ch 6 sp

R 8 : Ch 3 (counts as 1st DC), DC 7x over the ch 7 sp, ch 8, DC 8x into the same ch 7 sp, * DC 8 into the next ch 7 sp, ch 8, DC 8x into the same ch 7 sp,* repeat from * to * 6x, sl st into the top of the ch 3, sl st into the next 6 DC, and sl st into the ch 7 sp

R 9 : Ch 3 (counts as 1st DC), DC 7x over the ch 8 sp, ch 5 SC into the 1st ch sp (forming a picot), DC 8x into the same ch 8 sp, * DC 8x into the next ch 8 sp, ch 5 SC into the 1st ch sp (forming a picot), DC 8x into the same ch 8 sp,* repeat from * to * 6x, sl st into the top of the ch 3, sl st into the next 6 DC, and sl st into the picot

R 10: Ch 2, SC into the top of the picot, *ch 6 (see note below), SC into the top of the next picot,* repeat from * to * 7x, ch 6, sl st into the top or the beginning SC

Note: Try on the hat at this point. If the band does not snugly fit around you head where you would like it to then increase or decrease the amount of chains between the SC. Chaining is fast and easy, and checking at this point will insure you a fit that you like. My chains were done quite loosely. If you increase by a lot you might want to consider adding in a few more DC, ch 1's in the next 3 rows (or decreasing if you had to decrease). It's all about tension and you are at the fastest and most fitted point now. Make it a hat you love to wear!

R 11: Ch 4 (counts a 1st DC and ch 1), into the 1st 5 ch sp (DC, ch 1) 3x, *into the next 5 ch sp (DC, ch 1) 3x,* repeat from *to* around, sl st into the 3rd ch of the ch 4 beginning (total of 24 DC & ch1)

R 12-13: Ch 4 (counts a 1st DC and ch 1), *DC into the next DC, ch 1,* repeat from * to * around, sl st into the 3rd ch of the ch 4 beginning (total of 24 DC & ch1)

R 14: Ch 1, SC into the 1st ch 1 sp, *SC 2x into the next ch 1 sp,* repeat from * to * around, sl st into the 2nd ch of the ch 2 beginning (total of 48 SC), tie off and weave in ends
