It's snowing here but that's not stopping us from enjoying a summertime treat! I don't like sugary drinks because of the empty calories and the sugar high that is follow by a grumpy low when I have too much. However, I do like flavor in my drinks and I have found a wonderful and natural treat for the whole family. My kids love it as much as I do! It's a healthy alternative to giving them fatty sugary drinks or artificial sweeteners that I am concerned would cause a different kind of health problem.
The answer is Stevia, a naturally sweet herb! But beware many sweeteners that are parading as being "true" or "raw" actually use dextrose and that is a man made substance. The 2 brands I have found that only use Stevia and its derivatives are "Sweet Leaf" and "Stevitia" (from Brazil). FYI, Stevia has been shown to lower your blood pressure and blood sugar in studies--good for some, bad for others.
So, throw out the Cokes and KoolAid! It's time for a refreshingly healthy treat!
Here's the recipe:
4 c. Water
1 lemon juiced
(Cooks secret: If you microwave a lemon for 30 seconds and let it cool down for a few minutes it juices fast and thoroughly.)
1 tsp of Stevia
Mix and enjoy!
I love this recipe! I'm with you on the empty calories. I barely drink fruit juice because of the extra sugar...I'd rather just eat the fruit :)

DeleteGreat idea and a great way to make lemonade. I use stevia so much. Another good reasons to get rid of Kool-Aid is the artificial dyes that are so toxic. Thanks for sharing. Visiting from Real Food Friday and hosting. Have a wonderful healthy day!
